About the Opportunity

Step into a key regulatory role where you will lead inspections, provide expert guidance, and contribute directly to CBS’s compliance and enforcement outcomes. As a Senior Compliance Inspector, you will be at the forefront of field operations in the tobacco and vaping sector, engaging with traders, licensees and the community to ensure compliance with legislation administered by CBS. This role plays an important part in maintaining public safety, supporting fair trading, and upholding integrity within these regulated industries. You will work closely with inspectors, investigators, law enforcement and other regulatory partners, applying sound judgement, managing risk in dynamic environments, and helping to deliver consistent, high quality regulatory outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and conducting inspections to assess compliance with legislation.

  • Providing education and advice to licensees, traders and consumers.

  • Leading or supporting taskforce operations, including joint activities with enforcement agencies.

  • Gathering, securing and managing evidence in accordance with procedures.

  • Issuing notices, expiations and other compliance actions.

  • Preparing reports on compliance trends and areas of persistent non compliance.

  • Assisting with interviews, document review and investigative activities.

  • Representing CBS in court and providing accurate, reliable witness testimony.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong experience in compliance work, including conducting inspections and managing evidence.

  • Sound understanding of legislation, natural justice and court processes.

  • Experience using investigation and inspection techniques.

  • Ability to prepare high quality reports, statements and documentation.

  • Confidence working under limited direction and applying sound judgement.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to support other inspectors in field based work.

If you are motivated by meaningful regulatory work and enjoy operating in a dynamic, field based environment, this role positions you at the centre of CBS’s frontline compliance operations.
