The City of Unley spans 14 square kilometres and has a population of almost 40,000. The city contains five vibrant shopping precincts nestled in character residential settings with infrastructure and assets in excess of $700 million. Ideally located on the southern fringe of Adelaide, the Council has great amenity and excellent facilities. 

In 2024, Council adopted its Buildings Assets Management Plan which outlines the City’s strategies in providing accommodation for its civic, administrative and operational functions, along with community services such as sporting and recreational activities, libraries, community centres, public amenities and works depot.

Reporting to the Manager City Assets, and supported by a capable team, the purpose of this role is to ensure key buildings across the council area are maintained and developed to a high standard. Responsibilities will include:

• Driving innovation and environmental sustainability in the delivery of Council’s buildings and facilities related projects and services

• Liaising with external consultants, designers, architects, and statutory authorities to provide specifications, documentation, and design details for external and internal service providers

• Managing contractors responsible for the delivery of Council’s capital, renewal and maintenance building infrastructure works.

• Providing high level customer service when liaising with the community including tenants and community groups with respect to buildings and facilities projects or property matters

• Preparing, managing and reporting on the annual buildings and facilities budget

• Overseeing the delivery of all operational maintenance activities associated with buildings, including cleaning, security, access control and fire services

• Ensure effective working relationships and consultation with individuals, community groups, tenants, staff, Elected Members and other stakeholders

• Assisting the City Assets Team with the development and delivery of Council’s Building Asset Management Plan including condition auditing, capital and maintenance planning, short and long-term strategic project planning

• Overseeing the development, management, and administration of all leases, licenses, encroachments and other permits related to the use of Council owned buildings, facilities and other key assets

• Preparing reports for Council, Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Managers Leadership Group (MLG)

• Leading and assisting the team, and participating in staff recruitment as required

• Ensuring WHS systems and controls are effectively implemented and adhered to.

Relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience in building, construction, project and/or contractor management related to building and property assets will be essential, along with experience in property and facilities management.

Proven experience working with internal and external stakeholders, contractors and the community is essential, supported by excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary will be negotiated according to skills, experience and qualifications.
