Legal Counsel

McMahon Services is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our Legal Team and provide dedicated legal support to our operational business units.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with project teams, operational leaders and commercial stakeholders, acting as a trusted business partner while developing your legal expertise across contracts, disputes, risk management and project delivery.

Our Legal Team plays a critical role in supporting business growth, managing risk and enabling successful project delivery across a diverse portfolio of construction, industrial and environmental projects.

About the Role

You will act as the primary legal advisor to a dedicated business unit, developing a deep understanding of its operations, projects and commercial objectives.

Working closely with business leaders, project managers and commercial teams, you will provide practical legal advice while contributing to contract negotiations, claims management, dispute resolution and risk mitigation activities.

What You'll Do

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, subcontracts and commercial agreements
• Provide practical legal advice across commercial and operational matters
• Support project teams with contract administration, claims and dispute management
• Assist with managing litigation, insurance matters and external legal providers
• Conduct legal research and prepare advice on emerging legal risks
• Support tender reviews and contract departures for higher-risk projects
• Assist with the development of legal training materials and resources
• Contribute to legal process improvements and compliance initiatives
• Build strong relationships with operational and commercial stakeholders

What You'll Bring

• Law degree and admission to practice law in Australia
• 2-5 years' post-admission experience in private practice or an in-house environment
• Strong drafting, research and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously
• A commercial mindset and desire to understand how projects and businesses operate
