Position Title

Horticulture Worker, Casual – 3 days per week (with opportunity for

permanent employment)

Sustainable Backyards is an organic garden maintenance and permaculture focused business, servicing residential and educational sites across Adelaide Hills and surrounds.

We are currently seeking a reliable, positive and respectful team member to join our growing team on a casual basis for 3 days per week, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent role as the business continues to expand.

About the Role:

This is a hands-on role involving seasonal gardening tasks, lawn maintenance, irrigation and general horticultural work. You'll work across a variety of residential and educational sites, delivering high-quality outcomes while upholding our values around sustainability, professionalism and respect.

Key Responsibilities:

- General seasonal horticultural tasks including planting, pruning, hedging, mulching, edging, weed control, soil improvement, pests/ disease management, soft scaping and brush cutting.

- Lawn care, including mowing, renovations, aeration, top dressing, fertilising.

- Operate, monitor and maintain irrigation systems, troubleshoot faults, adjust schedules for seasonal conditions and water efficiency.

- Use work health and safety procedures when handling fertiliser, soils, pesticides, herbicides, power tools and hand tools.

- Report equipment issues.

- Safe and efficient use of power tools, hand tools and equipment.

- Communicating clearly and professionally with team members and clients.

- Identifying issues and applying practical problem-solving skills.

- Exercising discretion within their skill level and training.

- Assisting in the provision of on-the-job training.

- Responsible for the quality of their own work subject to routine supervision.

Essential Requirements:

- Experienced in gardening work and demonstrates competence in plant and

lawn maintenance and development, tree and shrub identification.

- Driver's license and own vehicle for travel between jobs.

- Chainsaw certificate, or willingness to obtain one.

- Working with children check or willing to obtain.

- Excellent communication skills (customer facing) and presentation.

- Strong commitment to safety and procedures.

- Strong problem-solving abilities and abilities to work independently and under

routine supervision individually or in a team environment.

- Willingness to upskill and undertake further training.

- Physically fit, with no previous injuries that may impact manual work.

- Ability to work both independent and within a small team.

- Must be an Australian citizen.

Desirable Requirements:

- Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent.

- Strong knowledge of gardening equipment.

- Have Working with children check certificate or willingness to obtain.

- Understanding of pruning fruit trees and perennial plants.

- Understanding of soil health.
