Draftsperson Engineering

We are looking for a motivated Draftsperson / Junior Engineering Assistant to assist with residential drafting and engineering projects. The role would suit someone who is confident with 2D AutoCAD drafting and has a genuine interest and understanding of residential structural and civil engineering.

This is not a drafting-only role. We are looking for someone who can assist with both the drafting and engineering side of projects, including preparing documentation, interpreting mark-ups, understanding structural requirements, attending site inspections, and supporting the delivery of residential engineering work.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be involved in:

• Preparing 2D drafting documentation using AutoCAD across residential and structural projects

• Producing set-out drawings, shop drawings and as-constructed documentation

• Attending residential sites to take measurements, record existing conditions and gather information required for drafting and engineering design

• Assessing roof spaces and existing structural arrangements for proposed load-bearing wall removals

• Interpreting mark-ups and revising drawings accurately and efficiently

• Assisting with structural documentation for residential projects, including wall removals, extensions, decks, verandahs, carports, footings and timber framing layouts

• Applying basic civil and structural engineering principles to drafting and documentation

• Managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

• Maintaining drawing standards and quality across all documentation

• Communicating with clients and internal stakeholders to support project delivery

• Contributing to the continuous improvement of drafting systems and processes

About You

We are looking to connect with candidates who bring:

• 2–3 years’ 2D AutoCAD drafting experience, preferably within residential construction, building services, structural engineering or civil drafting

• A genuine knowledge of structural and civil engineering principles and technical drafting

• Understanding of timber framing and residential construction methods

• Confidence attending site inspections, taking measurements and documenting existing site conditions

• Ability to inspect roof spaces and understand load paths for residential structural alterations

• Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new software

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously

• Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously

• Good attention to detail and a practical problem-solving mindset

• A positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow within the business

• Experience with Revit would be advantageous but is not essential
