Our Rail Division, previously known as Great Southern Rail (“GSR”) operates Australia’s iconic rail journeys, The Ghan, Indian Pacific, The Overland and Great Southern. There are very few global journeys considered national treasures, but our trains are, without question, iconic Australian experiences.

About the role

An exciting role exists as part of our Maintenance function at Journey Beyond Rail. This role will be offered on a permanent basis.

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Conduct mechanical tasks, including overhauls, installations, and fitting of mechanical equipment.

  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and unscheduled repairs based on trade knowledge and training.

  • Undertake troubleshooting and fault finding for routine vehicle issues, which may occasionally involve complex problem-solving within tight scheduling deadlines.

  • Identify and rectify faults in rail carriages, encompassing carriage air brakes, bogies, undercarriage, inter-carriage equipment, and the EVAC toilet system.

  • Examine and interpret drawings and specifications.

About You

  • Relevant Trade Qualification

  • While prior work experience in the rail/transport industry is desirable, we also encourage tradespeople with diverse industry experiences to apply for this position.
